Jewel Ghoul is the second boss and a major antagonist in AntonBlast. Sent by Satan to take out the duo in an attempt to reclaim the stolen Spirits. He is fought after finishing Bomb Candy Mines. Defeating him allows you to access the West Wing.

Appearance[]

Jewel Ghoul is a lustful drooling gem headed giant that wears an orange fedora, and a orange zoot suit, with yellow gloves. He doesn't have neck nor arms, his body is diamond-shaped, like his head which is an actual diamond.

He has black eyes, his body and head are purple (through his head shows a brighter color). Most of his teeth are white, but one of them is golden while the other tooth shows him drooling. In his transition to Phase 2. He loses his fedora while his head is nearly shattered, losing two of his teeth, In the fight against Giga Satan, his face is bandaged up due to the Crystaline bullet that shattered his head, while his only body is recovered

Boss Fight[]

Jewel Ghoul is quite the formidable opponent, he has a whole slew of various attacks, and if you aren't careful, he'll punch ya, he'll shoot ya, he'll REALLY smoke ya. So patience and focus is the key. It's also best to focus on killing those Jewel Goons.

To damage Jewel Ghoul, the player must Hammer Vault into his face.

During the fight, Jewel Goons will spawn, Pimp-Walking across the stage until killed.

Phase 1[]

Note: All the attack names mentioned are fan-made

  • Fist Swing: Jewel Ghoul will wind up a punch and then punch forward, this attack is fairly easy to dodge.
  • Jewel Revolver: Jewel Ghoul will pull out a comically large revolver and fire a crystaline bullet with a manic grin on its face, this bullet moves slow, but ricochets off of walls, and will disappear after hitting a surface four times. The bullet can also be destroyed early with a Hammer Vault.
  • Cigar Smoke: Jewel Ghoul takes a smoke break, also using it to damage you with flames that will crawl up walls.
  • Shuffle The Deck: Jewel Ghoul will start shuffling a deck of cards, moving his hands to both sides of the screen as the cards fall, before slamming the ground, causing Five cards to emerge from the ground, then bringing his hands together. If Anton is caught between jewel ghoul's hands when he brings them together, he'll be put on the tornado transformation, but instead of requiring 3 wall-hits to wear off, it requires 8.
  • Minecart Mishap: Jewel Ghoul points in a direction while putting a hand to his "ear", before a minecart containing some crystals and a Pippo will come flying out of the wall, the crystals and Pippo falling out of said cart. Due to Pippo being unable to harm the player, the only thing you should worry about is the falling crystals. The minecart seems to come from the wall opposite to where Jewel Ghoul is pointing, so if he were pointing left, it would come from the right.

Phase 2[]

Jewel Ghoul, like most major bosses in ANTONBLAST has a second phase. Once all three health bars are emptied, Jewel Ghoul begins to devour Anton whole sending him into his cigarette filled chest cavity, the rest of the fight takes place inside of the Crystalline Crook's body, in which you fight his very heart upon millions of put-out cigarettes. The way to damage him does not change however, the player still must Hammer Vault in order to harm him. Jewel Goons are unable to spawn, however, red and blue wheel enemies will occasionally spawn in place of them. Said enemies will bounce across the stage, ignoring the cigarette terrain.

The phase 2 attacks are as follows:

  • Heart Slam: Jewel Ghoul's heart will slam downwards, causing the floor beneath it to break.
  • Spiked Wheels: Jewel Ghoul's heart goes upwards as three spiked rolling objects with his face on them go across the floor, or up and down the walls. about 3 of them will spawn.
  • Stomach Acid: Jewel ghoul's heart will go off-screen and fireballs will start coming out of the stomach acid, additionally, some geysers might pop up here and there, be careful.

After Jewel Ghoul's heart was unable to take the punishment, the heart lets out a Slowed down Howie scream as he blows up. giving him a shattered heart attack (quite literally in this case), Dynamite Anton will leap out of Jewel Ghoul's body, and pull out the stolen Jewel Revolver he uses while donning the gunslinger outfit from Antonball Deluxe, aiming dead on at him as the Jewel Gals begin to freak out in sheer panic While Jewel Ghoul pleads him to spare and not shoot. with one press of the button, a crystaline bullet shoots straight through his head, shattering it into nothing but pieces of shards, causing him to explode and thus, concluding the boss fight.

If you are able to get low enough in the second phase, you can hit the Brulette, rewarding you with health or chips.

Trivia[]

  • In original concepts, Jewel Ghoul was supposed to be called "Crown Jewel". He would have royal aspects before switching to a Mobster look.[1]
  • The flames that Jewel Ghoul summons from his Cigar Smoke were originally Green, but have been changed to blue in the final release of the game. However, the flames in his second phase remain green.
  • Jewel Ghoul’s design is a mix of Rudy, the final boss of Wario Land 3, with it's hand-based attacks and glove design; and Black Jewel, the final boss of Wario World, with it's elemental attacks and head design. He may also resemble to the Axel enemy from Rayman 2: Great Escape.
  • His card attack might resemble King Dice, one of the major antagonists in the indie game Cuphead.
  • Each boss in the game (Besides Satan) has a sin assigned to them from the Seven Deadly Sins. The sin for Jewel Ghoul is Lust. This is shown as he lives in a nightclub, which is full of pleasures: from the seductive dancers to the deadly amounts of cigarettes he smokes (and seemingly eats) to the music to the overall partying.[2]
  • The pose that he makes at the beginning of the boss fight resembles a pose that Daffy Duck makes in the Looney Tunes short "Book Revue". (Which is a popular meme dubbed "Literally Me")
  • Judging from the fact that he is quite literally a diamond, and that the stage you go through before fighting him is Bomb Candy Mines. We can infer that said mines are his domain.
  • Jewel Ghoul's design and attacks seems to be a reference to Stanley as his superhero form from The Mask.
  • The quick-time event's visuals at the end of the boss fight are a reference to Hogan's Alley, a NES game. The yellow detonator section of The Mad Mall also references this with the gimmick in that area.
  • Anton and Annie have unique gunslinger outfits in the quick-time event. Anton has a more cowboy-ish one while Annie has a more fancy and revealing dress, having cleavage. (Which a lot of Antonblast players, including me, find attractive) (As another person I agree. We love Annie.) ,[This brings back a nod to Antonball Deluxe]
  • After defeating his first phase, you might can hear him scream before his second phase, which is the Howie scream.
  • The arena where the fight takes place is what appears to be a cavern and a shady night club.
  • In the background of the fight, there are dancers named "Jewel Gals" in the back with a head similar to that of Jewel Ghoul.
  • In one of the Game Files. Jewel Ghoul originally was gonna have his own Boss Card like the Bossbusters thanks to The Spriters Resource, featuring a rough sketch of what appears to be "Crown Jewel" himself. In fact. Most of the Jewel Ghoul sprites have a lot of Placeholders and rough sketches thanks to The Cutting Room floor.
  • Right after Jewel Ghoul summons a Minecart. One of the Pippos instead of having it's own death sound. Will share the same death sound whenever a Ballbuster is killed.
  • His second phase is a reference to Glumstone the Giant's third phase in "Gnome Way Out" from the Cuphead DLC (Delicious Last Course), which has you fighting a heart, like how you fought Glumstone's stomach ulcer. Unlike Glumstone who gets indigestion after being defeated. Jewel Ghoul clutches his chest in pain after his heart is destroyed.
  • Fun fact about his sprite, his body doesn’t swap places, so the patch in his shirt, the hat on his head, his gold tooth, etc. remain in the same spot. Usually sprite designers would flip the sprite horizontally (which would look less accurate) when turning around to save time but they did it anyway, props to them!
  • Jewel Ghoul actually has a Keyart alongside Freako Dragon during Antober 2024, it's full look wasn't revealed until Feb 14 2025, It's unknown if we'll have a clean PNG version of it. (Well I kinda got the closest thing we'll get to it -Eboi)
  • During the second phase, if you look closely at the lungs in the background, they will breathe faster the more you hit Jewel Ghoul’s heart.
    • Another cool thing to notice is that the color of Jewel Ghoul's ribcage and lungs change the more you hit his heart. His ribcage becomes redder, and the lungs become darker.
  • Originally, there was going to be a short level segment before each boss, Jewel Ghoul's Prefight level can be found in the game files
